Accession of Turkey to the European Union

Turkey sees a glimmer of hope in reviving its stalled accession process to the European Union in 2020 in the context of the new leadership taking the helm of key European institutions and with expectations of the accelerated reform process by the government.

European Union governments agreed on Monday to limit arms exports to Turkey over its offensive in northern Syria, stopping short of a bloc-wide embargo on a NATO ally.

Turkey sees that the EU wants to forge better cooperation on migration, but it must keep its promises, as Turkey has done, the Turkish foreign minister said on Oct. 4.

Germany's interior minister will visit Turkey next week for talks on the EU-Turkey refugee deal, the government announced on Sept. 27.

Turkey and the EU held a political dialogue meeting on political directors level on Sept. 13 in EU capital Brussels, according to diplomatic sources.

Strengthening climate change measures, hybrid threats and the resilience of the financial market structure are all topics that finance ministers will comment on.
