Turkish army chief inspects 'Olive Branch' troops in border province of Hatay

Turkey's army chief on May 25 visited the southern border province of Hatay to inspect troops taking part in the ongoing Operation Olive Branch in northwestern Syria. 

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar was briefed by the commanders on duty in the region and issued orders.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has hit out against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in an exclusive interview with Kathimerini, accusing him of being "affiliated" with the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist organization and calling Turkish troops who occupied the Syrian enclave of Afrin "terrorists." 

4,254 militants 'neutralized' in Afrin operation: Turkish military       

The number of "neutralized" militants in Turkey's operation in northwestern Afrin, Syria has risen to 4,254, while 37 militants were also neutralized in operations over the past week in northern Iraq and eastern Turkey, the Turkish army said on April 21.
