A new border crossing with northwestern Syria's Afrin region will be named the "Kumlu Border Crossing," with Turkish authorities aiming to use it to deliver humanitarian aid, according to an official source. 

A huge underground base used by militants has been found in Syria’s Afrin region, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on April 15.

Turkey's main opposition leader has paid a visit to the Turkish troops on the Syrian border as the Operation Olive Branch into Afrin continues into Afrin province of the neighboring country, days after he harshly slammed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for visiting a military outpost along with celebrities.

Kurdish, Arab, and Turkmen civilian representatives established an interim local council in Syria's Afrin on April 12 to provide local services.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia expects Turkey to bring the strategic northern Syrian town of Afrin, previously held by the People's Defense Units (YPG), under the control of the Syrian government.

A total of 3,991 militants have been "neutralized" since the start of Operation Olive Branch in Syria's northwestern Afrin region, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on April 7. 

Turkey will not withdraw its troops from Afrin despite the urging of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın has said. 

Arms and ammunitions used during the military operation in Syria's Afrin province are consistent with international law, Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar has said.

One Turkish civilian worker was killed and three soldiers were injured when a military vehicle drove over a mine in Afrin in northwestern Syria, the Turkish military said on April 1.

A total of 3,820 militants have been "neutralized" since the start of Operation Olive Branch in Syria's Afrin region, the Turkish military said in a statement on March 31.
