Jankovic beats Pennetta to reach quarterfinals in Rome

ROME - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic beat Italy's Flavia Pennetta 6-2 6-3 in Rome on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Italian Open.

Jankovic dominated throughout the match, earning a well-deserved victory against world number 12, her 8th in 10 matches against Pennetta.

She will next face Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland, who beat Francesca Schiavone of Italy 6-4 6-1.

WTA rankings: Jankovic up to eighth spot, Ivanovic 12th

LONDON - The best-ranked Serbian female tennis player holds the eighth place in the WTA rankings that were published on Monday, which is one notch up on last week, while Ana Ivanovic remained the world's No. 12.

Jankovic, who suffered a defeat in the Bogota final on Sunday, currently has 4,010 points, surpassing Russia's Maria Sharapova.

As No.12, Ivanovic has 3,280 points.

Jankovic ranks 8th, Ivanovic 13th on WTA list

LONDON - Serbia's best-ranked female tennis player Jelena Jankovic dropped by two positions on the latest WTA list and currently holds the 8th place on the list with the score at 4,150 points.

After a short stay at the 6 position, Jankovic returned to the 8th place as she was overtaken by Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Jankovic through to Indian Wells quarterfinals

INDIAN WELLS - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic made her way into the quarterfinals of the premier WTA tournament at Indian Wells after beating Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-3, 6-1 late on Tuesday CET.

The Serb will next face either Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland or Alize Cornet od France.

The total prize money for the tournament is USD 5.94 million.
