Ljubljana – Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar has ordered a review of the project to build new premises for the Interior Ministry and the police, the Necenzurirano news website has reported. The contract was signed by previous Interior Minister Aleš Hojs with the state-owned real estate investment firm DSU in July 2021.

Ljubljana – One of the two trade unions of Slovenian police officers has filed a criminal complaint against Interior Minister Aleš Hojs and a Robert Kos, the director for organisation and staff at the police, for alleged obstruction of union activity in the force and abuse of office.

Ljubljana – The Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants is preparing a facility at the border crossing of Jelšane, south-west, for Ukrainian refugees. Its director Katarina Štrukelj said that it could accept 80-100 refugees, depending on how many more arrive in the future.

Brussels – Slovenia has the capacity to accommodate between 180,000 and 200,000 refugees from Ukraine, Interior Minister Aleš Hojs said on Sunday. “At least this is what we have discussed in the past few days,” he told the press after an informal session of the EU’s interior ministers on Sunday.

Ljubljana – Interior Minister Aleš Hojs attended a two-day conference on migrations in Vilnius on Thursday and Friday, which discussed the issues of using migrations for political gains and common measures to strengthen surveillance at the EU’s external borders in light of increased migrations.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly is meeting for an eventful plenary session tomorrow that will culminate on Friday and next Monday with debates and votes on the opposition-sponsored motions to oust Environment Minister Andrej Vizjak and Interior Minister Aleš Hojs.

Brussels – Coming out of a meeting of EU home affairs ministers, Slovenia’s Aleš Hojs said it had been agreed that Croatia meets the conditions for entering the Schengen Area, and that it was a key step towards a final decision on the expansion of the no-passport zone. Hojs believes other steps will follow relatively soon.

Brussels – Interior Minister Aleš Hojs expressed the hope that progress could still be made by the end of 2021 on changes to the European Asylum Dactyloscopy Database (EURODAC), a part of the new Migration Pact. He noted that there would not be a major breakthrough regarding the pact during the Slovenian EU presidency and it had not been expected either.
