Militants linked to the ISIL group massacred at least 41 people, mostly students, in western Uganda, the country's deadliest such attack in over a decade, officials said Saturday.

Ugandan police said at least 25 people have been killed in a suspected rebel attack on a school near the Congo border.

In a statement on Saturday, authorities said that the Allied Democratic Forces carried out an attack late Friday night on a school in the border town of Mpondwe.

Fighters linked to the Islamic State group killed 25 people in a terrorist attack at a school in western Uganda, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Reuters reported, citing local police.

Ten people were killed Monday night in eastern DRC regions, where rebel civilians massacred protests against UN peacekeepers, local authorities said.

Ten civilians were killed in the village of Kamango, a day after 22 were killed in Ntombi, Beni Territory Administrator Donat Kibuana said Monday.

About 100 people were slaughtered last week in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the latest massacre to shake the restive region, lawmakers told AFP on Nov. 24.
