Basel defies forecast of art market slowdown
The Basel contemporary art fair last week defied forecasts of a market slowdown, with wealthy collectors buying works with seven or eight-figure price tags.
At its VIP day on June 13, Zurich's Hauser and Wirth gallery sold a spider by Franco-American sculptor Louise Bourgeois for $22.5 million.

Basquiat-Warhol: A rare artistic duo reunited in Paris
There are vanishingly few great collaborations in the annals of fine art. For a brief moment in the 1980s, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat showed the world how it was done.
It started with a bang. Warhol, 54, met Basquiat, 22, for lunch in October 1982 and took a polaroid of them together.

Basquiat painting sells in New York for $93.1 mln
Jean-Michel Basquiat's painting "In this Case" sold for $93.1 million in an auction on May 11 at Christie's in New York, the second-highest price paid for a work by the late artist.
The 1983 painting, which depicts a skull on a red background, sold for $81 million, but with fees and commissions the final price came to $93.1 million, well above the estimate of $50 million.

Homer's Odyssey gets modern art treatment at London exhibition
Contemporary artists have drawn upon everything from comic books to Campbell's soup cans for inspiration in recent years, but New York artist Scooter LaForge has drawn his from an altogether grander source, with a new exhibition based on Homer's classic poem "The Odyssey."
