A bee infestation in some parts of Istanbul has taken locals by surprise, as they fear bee stings and possible allergic reactions, but an expert has declared that there is no need to be alarmed.
The swarming period, which occurs every spring with honeybees reproducing, has caused some anxiety among locals in Istanbul.

Man in Thessaloniki arrested over dog abuse
An 87-year-old man was arrested and fined on Tuesday after he was caught on video abusing one of his dogs in the region of Loutron Langada in Thessaloniki.
He was arrested following a lawsuit filed by a representative of an animal rights group Syniparcho (Coexist) and is to appear before a prosecutor on Wednesday.

Lawsuit filed against man caught abusing dog on video
A representative of a local animal charity filed a lawsuit against a Thessaloniki man caught on video abusing a dog. The lawsuit was filed at the Lagada police precinct.
The video, that was uploaded on social media, shows the man beating the dog with a stick.
Motorcyclist injured in collision with wild boar
A motorcyclist was injured on the main Edipsos-Limni road on the island of Evia, in the area of Rovia, after colliding with a pack of wild boar on Friday.

Bulgaria: An Elderly Woman has been Missing for over a Week (PHOTO)
An elderly woman from the Bulgarian village of Pushevo has been declared missing since Wednesday, May 3.
She was last seen at the upper end of Pushevo - the road to the village of Kereka. Her name is Monica Shtarbanova (Моника Щърбанова), she is around 70 years old, dressed in dark clothes with a winter gray hat.
Owners must provide DNA of non-neutered pets
Dog and cat owners who do not want to have their pets neutered must provide a DNA sample to the Academy of Athens' specialized laboratory, according to a circular issued by the Interior Ministry.

Poisonous jellyfish thriving in Dardanelles: Expert
In the Dardanelles, located in the western province of Çanakkale, poisonous compass jellyfish whose numbers have been increasing since last year, have negatively affected the fish population, an expert has warned.
Compass jellyfish (chrysaora hysoscella), whose natural habitats are the Mediterranean and the Aegean, are now seen more frequently in the Dardanelles.

Pets will soon be allowed into more than 120 archaeological sites across Greece, the country's Culture Ministry announced on April 27, although not in the Acropolis or some of the other top tourist draws.
Ya Ya the giant panda heading to China after 20 years in US
Ya Ya the giant panda began its trip to China on April 26 from the Memphis Zoo, where it has spent the past 20 years as part of a loan agreement.
The zoo said Ya Ya was being accompanied on its return to China by a veterinarian who will manage the panda's medical needs and a zoological officer who will handle all husbandry requirements.
