EU Commission Opens Debate on Fairer Taxation

The European Commission on Wednesday said it held a first orientation debate on possible key actions to ensure a fairer and more transparent approach to taxation in the EU.

The President of the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, has made the fight against tax evasion and avoidance a top political priority of his Commission.

EP President Schulz: Europe will help Greece fight tax evasion

European Parliament President Martin Schulz said on Saturday that the European Union will help Greece recover the assets that have been taken out of the country.

More specifically, in an interview to "Parapolitika" newspaper, Schulz urged the Greek government to get to work and fight tax evasion and fraud.

At some point we need to adopt a more practical approach to a number of sensitive issues and abandon the Northern European dogmatism that reads well on paper but has little practical effect. I am specifically referring to the ongoing talks between the government and the troika for steps to repatriate Greek capital that has been transferred abroad.
