Brazilian Tavares makes Slovenian football history

"I cannot score many goals by myself. This is the result of working with the team, with the coach, the director and the fans. Even Jesus has helped me survive here," Tavares said.

The Brazilian native switched to Slovenia's most successful club from the Cypriot side Apoel in January 2008 and went on to become the absolute home crowd favourite.

“History can not be stolen” and “Bring the marbles back” were written on two banners APOEL’s fans raised during the away game with Tottenham for the Champions League groups.

They also raised one more with a picture of the Acropolis.

The big banners, was a reminder by the Cypriot fans to the Britons of the stolen marbles of the Parthenon.

Easy win for Olympiakos, while Panathinaikos squanders lead

Olympiakos went joint top of its Europa League group after thrashing visiting Astana 4-1 on Thursday, while Panathinaikos wasted a two-goal lead at Standard Liege to draw 2-2 and PAOK lost 2-0 at Qarabag.
