Apostolos Christou wins silver medal in men’s 200m backstroke
Greek swimmer Apostolos Christou won the silver medal in the men's 200m backstroke final on Thursday.
Christou finished in second place with a time of 1:54.82, setting a new national record. He trailed Hungarian swimmer Hubert Kos, who won gold with a time of 1:54.26, and finished ahead of Swiss competitor Roman Mityukov, who clocked 1:54.85.

Second medal for Greece at the Olympic Games, as Apostolos Christou took second place in the 200m backstroke final in Paris with a time of 1:54.82.
“I gave it my all because I knew I had to surpass myself. I really wanted it and found the strength to perform an incredible race,” emphasized Apostolos Christou after his great success.
Christou finishes 4th in 100 backstroke
Apostolos Christou missed on a medal for a mere two-hundredths of a second, finishing 4th in the men's 100 meters backstroke in 52.41 seconds at the Paris Olympics Monday.
Italy's Tomas Ceccon won gold in 52 seconds flat, China's Xu Jiayu won silver, his second after Rio, in 52.32 and Rio gold medalist Ryan Murphy of the US was third in 52.39.

Gkolomeev takes silver in Glasgow
Greece's performance in the 2018 European Aquatics Championships in Glasgow ended on a high note on Thursday, with swimmer Kristian Gkolomeev taking silver in the 50 m freestyle.
With a time of 21.44, he broke his own record that he set in Glasgow at the semifinals on Wednesday. Gkolomeev finished behind Ben Proud of Britain and ahead of Andrea Vergani from Italy.

Vazaios is the new European medley champion
Andreas Vazaios became on Wednesday only the third Greek swimmer ever to win gold in a European Championship.
The Greek champion finished first in the 200-meter medley final clocking a new national record of 1 minute and 58.18 seconds. He had also finished first in the semifinals with 1:58.47.
