19 detained after anarchists barge into Spanish Embassy in Athens

Police detained 19 suspects on Wednesday after members of the anti-establishment group Rouvikonas (Greek for Rubicon) barged into the Spanish Embassy in Athens.

In a message posted on the Athens Indymedia website, the group said the raid, which took place shortly after 10 a.m., was in solidarity with "the oppressed people of Catalonia."

Barcelona police have sealed off a warehouse said to be stocking ballot boxes, as Spain seeks to obstruct a Catalan independence referendum, reported BBC. 

The Guardia Urbana force was obeying an order from prosecutors to prevent the Catalan vote going ahead on Sunday.

Spain is deploying thousands of extra police in the region.

Canadian PM welcomes Turkish film festival in Vancouver

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has hailed the upcoming Vancouver Turkish Film Festival, which will take place between Nov. 25 and 27. 

"I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the third annual Vancouver Turkish Film Festival (VTTF)," Trudeau wrote in his letter sent to Hakan Burcuoğlu, the founder and the director of the festival. 

Antalya Piano Festival turns 17, expects more listeners to come

The International Antalya Piano Festival is returning for a 17th year on Sept. 21 with world-famous artists. 

For the first time this year, the festival, which was previously organized at the Antalya Culture Center, will be organized at the EXPO 2016 Antalya Congress Center in order to facilitate the participation of a higher number of people. 

Turkish Air Force head taken hostage during wedding

Turkey's commander of air forces was taken hostage while attending a wedding on July 15, by soldiers that have engaged a failed coup attempt.

General Abidin Ünal, the commander of Air Force was attending the wedding of the daughter of General Mehmet Şanver, the commander of Eskişehir Combatant Air Unit, on the Anatolian side of Istanbul.
