Hearts and artichokes

I did not expect much. It was like any other Sunday morning. 

I was happy to have persuaded my daughter to go to the corner store to pick up a few things for breakfast. Though she was reluctant as ever, she did not have the guts to say no and silently obeyed. It was Mother's Day after all! 

Tulip time for Istanbul as festival opens in Emirgan Forest

The 11th annual Istanbul Tulip Festival has opened with an official ceremony in the Emirgan Forest on the city's European side. 

"The tulip was our flower but foreign travelers brought Turkish tulip bulbs to their countries and tulips started to blossom elsewhere," Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topba? told reporters and guests on April 9. 

Emperors, kings, sultans?

Royalty is about having high tastes, but sometimes the blue-blooded also enjoy things popular with common people. One thing they share with the masses is often not known: Asparagus. Throughout the Mediterranean basin, from Spain to Turkey, peasants and the poor forage for the wild variety every spring; horses and cattle like to graze on it from Poland to Siberia.
