Azerbaijani soldier killed in new Karabakh clash

Armenian troops on Nov. 20 killed an Azerbaijani soldier, the defense ministry in Baku said, amid escalating tensions in the longstanding conflict over the disputed Nagorny Karabakh region.

Last week, Armenia threatened "grave consequences" after Azerbaijani forces shot down a helicopter belonging to the army of the breakaway ethnic Armenian region.

Armenia threatened “grave consequences” Nov. 12 after Azerbaijani forces shot down a military helicopter, as seen in recently revealed footage that shows the incident.        

Armenian media reported the helicopter’s three crew members were killed.

Azerbaijani forces on Nov. 12 shot down an Armenian military helicopter, the defence ministry in Baku said, in a dramatic flare-up in the arch-foes' longstanding conflict over Nagorny Karabakh.
      
The downing marks the most serious military incident along the Karabakh frontier since the 1994 ceasefire that ended a bloody conflict over the disputed region.
      

France hosts Karabakh talks

French President Francois Hollande hosts leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan today as Europe makes a fresh push to end the festering conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited both countries last week after a sharp escalation in violence over the disputed region in recent months as war raged in Ukraine.
