In cooperation with the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, the Athens Concert Hall presents Oxford University professor Stephen Smith, who will deliver a lecture titled "Revolution and the People in Russia and China: A Comparative History" on Thursday, January 31. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and will be in English with simultaneous translation into Greek.

La Traviata | Athens | January 18

The Athens Concert Hall is screening Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata" live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York at 7.55 p.m. on Friday. The richly textured new production by Michael Mayer is conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin and stars soprano Diana Damrau as the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Florez returns as Alfredo, Violetta's hapless lover.

Requiem | Athens | January 11 & 12

Choreographer Alexis Tsiamoglou presents "Requiem: A Choreographed Portrait," at the Athens Concert Hall on Saturday and Sunday. In this original piece, dancer Niovi Benou presents a solo in which she approaches the creative process of dance much as a painter would approach the process of putting his or her feelings on the canvas. Shows start at 9 p.m. and general admission costs 15 euros.

Classical Gala | Athens | December 30

George Petrou conducts the Athens State Orchestra in a classical gala at the Athens Concert Hall on Sunday, December 30, with arias and duets from popular operas sung by soprano Vassia Alati and baritone Tassis Christoyannis, followed by Viennese waltzes and operettas by Strauss and Lehar. Tickets range from 16 to 60 euros and the show starts at 8.30 p.m.
