Traffic restrictions on Saturday and Sunday in central Athens
As part of the “This is Athens-City Festival” by the Municipality of Athens and the celebration of World Car-Free Day, traffic will be halted and parking prohibited on the following streets in central Athens from 8:00 PM on Saturday (21/9) until 10:00 PM on Sunday (22/9):
The goddess Athena on Athinaidos Street
Like a cut in the Athenian fabric, there's a narrow street stretching from Syntagma Square to Athinas Street that changes name four times along the way: From Karagiorgi Servias to Perikleous after crossing Lekka, to Athinaidos after Evangelistrias, and then to Agias Irinis on the last leg, after Aiolou Street.

The disappearance of Athens’ Commercial Triangle
The Commercial Triangle of Athens is defined as the central area of the Municipality of Athens, flanked by Stadiou, Mitropoleos and Athinas streets, with the vertices of the imaginary "triangle" being Syntagma, Monastiraki and Omonia squares. In addition, it includes the squares of Klathmonos and Kolokotronis on Stadiou, as well as Kotzias Square on Athinas.

Athens Pride moves to Kotzia Square
The central event of Athens Pride will take place on Kotzia Square, opposite Athens Town Hall, on Saturday, June 10.
The change from the traditional venue of Syntagma Square was necessitated by the presence of a party election pavilion on the central square.

Store, car park owners react to plan for pedestrianized Athens center
Small store owners and the owners of car parks in the centre of Athens have expressed their disagreement with a municipal plan to create a large traffic-free zone in the capital, saying it would ruin their business.
The plan, dubbed the Grand Walk of Athens, which aims to encourage on-foot exploration by tourists, will be pilot-tested on Thursday.

Renovation of Athens' Omonia Square to be completed in February
The renovation of Omonia Square in central Athens will be completed in February, the Athens City Council said on Monday.
Plans include reinstalling a fountain removed from the square in the early 1990s, while new hotels are slated to open on Pireos and Stadiou streets.
Beer Festival | Athens | To September 15
The Athens Beer Festival is under way in downtown Athens, across the street from City Hall in Kotzia Square. The event boasts 50 different labels from Greek brewers and microbreweries, another 50 from craft ale powerhouse the Czech Republic and an additional 20 labels from other producers. There are also parallel events going on, including live music performances. The festival opens at 1 p.m.
