Malaysia orders sea search and rescue for migrants
Malaysia's prime minister said May 21 he has ordered the navy and the coast guard to comb the sea to look for stranded migrants, the first country to announce it will search for the refugees in desperate need of help instead of waiting for them to wash up on Southeast Asia's shores.

Indonesia says migrant crisis is regional problem
Indonesia said on May 19 that the migrant boat crisis was a problem for all of Southeast Asia ahead of key regional talks, as Jakarta and other countries came under more pressure to let the boatpeople land.

Malaysian FM to meet Indonesian, Thai counterparts on migrants
Malaysia said on May 17 that its foreign minister would meet his Indonesian and Thai counterparts to discuss the surge in stricken boatpeople from Bangladesh and Myanmar flooding to Southeast Asia.
Foreign Minister Anifah Aman was to meet Indonesia's Retno Marsudi in the Malaysian city of Kota Kinabalu on May 18, a government official said.
Nepal rescuers find 3 bodies near crashed US chopper
Nepalese rescuers on May 15 found three bodies near the wreckage of a US Marine helicopter that disappeared earlier this week while on a relief mission in the earthquake-hit Himalayan nation, officials said.
Nepal's Defense Secretary Iswori Poudyal gave no details about the nationalities of the victims. The helicopter was carrying six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers.
Nepal Quake Toll Rises to 'at Least' 29, 1006 Injured
Tuesday's new earthquake in Nepal measuring 7.4 has left at least 29 people dead and 1006 injured, officials say.
The tremors were felt strongly in Kathmandu, the capital, but also throughout Nepal and as far as India, Bangladesh and China (the epicenter was located near the Chinese border).

Death Toll Surpasses 6600 as Hope of Finding Survivors in Nepal Extinguishes
As the death toll reached 6621 people, the authorities in Nepal ruled out the possibility of finding any more survivors from the disastrous earthquake, which hit the country on April 25.
According to the latest official information, the number of people, who were injured in the earthquake, stood at 14 021.
Bangladesh unrest toll tops 100 as more bodies found
The death toll from weeks of political violence in Bangladesh passed 100 on Monday, when police found four bullet-riddled bodies in the capital Dhaka.
Police said the four men were lynched after they were found carrying petrol bombs, frequently used in opposition protests.
Sixteen dead as Bangladesh ferry sinks, search for missing
Sixteen people including a baby are confirmed dead and rescuers are still searching for missing passengers after a ferry collided with a cargo ship and sank Feb. 22 in a Bangladesh river, officials said.
It was the second deadly boat accident in less than a fortnight in the country, which has a history of ferry tragedies.
