The President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank – Walter Steinmeier was welcomed in the martyred village of Kandanos with banners and slogans for German reparations.
Crete: Two people die after plane crashes into sea
Two people have died after their light aircraft crashed into the sea off Maleme, in Hania, Crete.
Local media said a lifeguard retrieved the bodies of the two people from the sea and that they were both pronounced dead.
Coast guard, navy, yachts and fishing boats assisted in the rescue and operation.

Greece’s defence ministry on Monday revealed its study into formerly classified Whrmacht papers kept in the United States. Efi Paschalidou from the Greek army history department (DIS) told AFP that the papers lifted the veil on an “endless list” of atrocities, including looting, the number of Cretans to be executed for every dead German soldier (10:1) to advice on which brothel to use.
Arrests on Crete for … illegal camping
A rare case of arrests for … illegal outdoor camping was reported this week in rural Rethymno prefecture on Crete, with 14 people briefly detained and charged for setting up tents in Natura program-protected area.
The detainees included 12 Greek nationals and two foreign nationals, an Italian and Frenchman, with the “trespassing campers” ranging in ages from 18 to 61.

Govt sources say Moscow willing to forward 'advance' from future pipeline's profits
Government sources on Wednesday announced that Russia was willing to "pre-pay" profits from a natural gas pipeline on the drawing board and projected to operate in 2019.
The announcement came in the wake of Greek PM Alexis Tsipras' meeting the same day at the Kremlin with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
