Justice minister criticizes court ruling in high-profile femicide case
Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has joined the public anger by criticizing the "unjust provocation discount" a court has given in the case of Cemal Metin Avcı, the murderer of university student Pınar Gültekin.
Speaking at a conference on the law on June 23, Bozdağ highlighted that the issue of "unjust provocation discount" should be discussed.
Istanbul prison fire leaves 20 inmates, 1 guard hospitalized
A fire broke out at a prison in Istanbul on Feb. 4, leaving 20 inmates and one prison warden hospitalized for smoke inhalation, Turkey's justice minister said.
There was no information on the cause of the blaze in Ümraniye prison, on the Asian side of the city.
New justice minister vows to take further measures against domestic violence
Turkey's new Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ on Feb. 2 said that domestic violence and violence against women will continue to be the first item on the agenda that his ministry will tackle.
"I instructed my friends. It is clear what has been done so far. We will work on what we can add to them, how we will take further steps," he said at a meeting on domestic violence.

As people in Turkey take precautions against coronavirus, they need not fear any disruption in the nation's food supply, said a top Turkish official on March 18.
Turkey has no problem in the production, stock, or supply chain of basic food products, said Bekir Pakdemirli, the agriculture and forestry minister.
