CoE urges Croatia to comply with European languages charter
The Council of Europe (CoE) has expressed regret over the decision by Vukovar City Council to change the city's statute and ban the use of bilingual signs.
These signs are written in both Croatian Latin and Serbian Cyrillic scripts and placed on public institutions, squares and streets.
EC confident Croatia will respect minority rights
Bilingual signs and minority languages are in the jurisdiction of European Union member states, a European Commission statement said on Thursday.
It added that the EC is confident that Croatia will honor national and international commitments on the protection of national minorities.

Croatia Veterans Give Govt Cyrillic Ultimatum
Veterans said all bilingual signs in Croatian and Serb Cyrillic must be removed from Vukovar or government politicians will be not be welcome at the annual commemoration of the town’s wartime fall.

Vukovar: Bilingual signs removed and smashed
VUKOVAR - Members of the Headquarters for Defense of Croat Vukovar removed all bilingual signs in the city after the wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial Cemetery to mark the constitution of the 204th Vukovar Brigade and offenders were brought in for questioning at the local police station.

VUKOVAR - Another bilingual sign, containing Croatian and Serbian text, placed on the building of the Croatian Employment Service in Vukovar has been smashed, and the police are searching for the culprits.
