The destruction brought by the massive wildfire in Greece's northeastern region of Evros is terrifying. 

Obviously, someone is to blame for how a blaze that broke out in such a sensitive area was allowed to turn into an uncontrollable megafire, destroying property and unique natural capital. 

Opposition blasts government over state flaws

The numerous out-of-control fires in many parts of Greece in recent days have turned the spotlight back on the enduring problems of the state machinery and failures to address them adequately.

Given that the ruling conservatives are into their fifth year at the helm and these glaring shortcomings remain, the inevitable political cost to the government cannot be overstated.

Gallup Survey: Half of the Bulgarians Think that the State Is to Blame for Their Problems

About half of the Bulgarians believe that the state is to blame for their problems. This way of thinking is more common among the older people, while the younger ones blame themselves for their personal problems more. The data is from a Gallup International survey, part of a sociological agency's monthly research program.
