Ex Bulgarian PM Borisov Backs Progressive Taxation

Former Bulgarian Prime Minister and leader of center-right party GERB has spoken in favor of progressive taxation.

"When there is very deep social division in the country, progressive taxation must be introduced. Flat tax only works in a well-functioning economy," Borisov said Sunday in an interview for Darik radio.

Ex Conflict of Interest Commission Chief To Spend 3.5 Years in Prison

The Sofia City Court sentenced Filip Zlatanov, former Chair of the Commission on Prevention and Ascertainment of Conflict of Interest (CPACI), to three-and-a-half years in prison.

The trial, which started on March 31, involved a covered-up probe of President Rosen Plevneliev and delayed decisions on two other cases, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Outgoing Bulgaria's Security Service Head to Work at South Stream

Gen. Todor Kodzheykov, Bulgaria's outgoing chief of the National Security Service, is to work for South Stream Bulgaria.

Gen. Kodzheykov will reportedly head the security department at the company, according to Bulgarian newspaper Presa, which cites MPs from the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party as well as from its partner Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS).

Bulgarian President's Security Council to Discuss Ukraine

Bulgaria's President and party leaders will gather Monday to work on a joint position on the Ukrainian crisis.

The talks are to be held after President Rosen Plevneliev called the Consultative Council for National Security, a panel in which politicians and chiefs of security services meet to discuss urgent issues.
