A steering committee to nominate President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Iotova as independent candidates to run for a second term in office at the November 14 presidential elections held its inaugural meeting on Monday. The committee comprises nearly 200 members, among them politicians, intellectuals, athletes, science, culture and art figures, and journalists.

Bulgarian pop-folk diva Luna Yordanova has submitted her application to run for president at the forthcoming Presidential elections. She was nominated by an initiative committee, the BNR's reporter Maria Fileva informed. For her part, Luna Yordanova refused to disclose the name of the person who would run for Vice President and said: "It will be a nice surprise. Life itself is a show.

"GERB leader Boyko Borissov should run for president in November," Bulgarian President Rumen Radev told journalists here on Monday.

The delegation from the LIBE Democracy, Rule of Law and Fundamental Rights Monitoring Group, on a mission monitoring the rule of law in Bulgaria, was not satisfied with its meeting with Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev, Dutch MEP and leader of the delegation Sophia in 't Veld (Renew Europe) said on Friday.

Kiril Petkov, one of the leaders of the new political project, believes that the newly formed coalition will win about 27-30% of the vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a riv interview he said he was pleasantly surprised by a poll that found it with 9% support, but said the campaign could multiply it by three.

President Rumen Radev welcomed the students and teachers on the first day of school at Hristo Smirnenski primary school in Pazardzhik.

"The Bulgarian school is more than a temple of knowledge, it is a sacred placve where our children develop awareness of themselves and the surrounding world," Rumen Radev said.

According to DB's Hristo Ivanov, without the participation of "There Is Such a People", new elections will definitely take place.

"We are in opposition because all parties have refused to support us," said Toshko Yordanov, chairman of the parliamentary group of "There Is Such a People" on the sidelines of the National Assembly.

This became clear during the hearing of the Interior Minister in the parliament.

Members of Parliament adopted a decision by an absolute majority, according to which the Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev must submit a report on the investigation of the police violence. The report must be submitted to parliament by Friday, August 20th.
