Bulgarian presidential election

Two months before the presidential election in Bulgaria, only one pair of candidates has been announced, and most parties will announce candidates at the last minute, if any.

Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev called a snap parliamentary election on Tuesday for July 11 and appointed Stefan Yanev, his close security and defense adviser, as caretaker prime minister until a new government is formed.

"No cabinet will be formed after the early elections in Bulgaria and the caretaker cabinet appointed by Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev will continue to govern for months", predicted this country's outgoing Premier Boyko Borissov.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov rushed furiously into the hall where today's traditional briefing of the National Operative Headquarters was held and interrupted it. He turned up the heat bragging about his successful management of Bulgaria. The Prime Minister's main target was President Rumen Radev. Borissov voiced serious accusations against the head of state.

At the proposal of President Rumen Radev Bulgaria will host the sixth summit of the Three Seas Regional Initiative, which brings together 12 EU member states, located between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black seas and which is actively supported by the US. The Bulgarian Head of State invited the US President to participate in the forum at the NATO summit in London.

President Rumen Radev convenes a consultative meeting to discuss the results of the work of the Joint Committee on Historical and Educational Affairs between Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia.

Prior to the invitation to Skopje to begin EU membership talks, the head of state requested that Bulgarian support should not be at the expense of native history, language and identity.

The Prime Minister and GERB leader Boyko Borissov signed a pre-election agreement for general participation in the local elections with the Union of Democratic Forces. This happened at the GERB headquarters at an event for which no media was invited. The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.

The share of Bulgarians who believe that the government will finish its full mandate is increasing. This shows the results of a Trend research study ordered by "24 hours". According to the data, the most approved party leader in Bulgaria remains the Prime Minister and Chairman of GERB Boyko Borissov.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has issued a decree scheduling the election for municipal councillors and mayors for 27 October 2019, said the presidential press office. The decree of the head of state is based on Art. 98, Item 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria in connection with Art. 4, Para 1 of the Electoral Code.
