Bulgaria's PM Backs Juncker as Next EC President Candidate

Plamen Oresharski, the Prime Minister who heads Bulgaria's socialist-led government, said Friday he has thrown his support behind EPP nominee for Commission President.

After an unsuccessful no-confidence vote in Parliament, Oresharski told the media that he had backed the bid of conservative Jean-Claude Juncker as EU Commission President.

Socialist Leader Stanishev to Be MEP for 1 Month

Sergey Stanishev, the leader of ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), said he would go to Brussels as MEP, but only for a month.

Speaking for public broadcaster BNR, he cited the "commitment" to propose current EP President Martin Schulz as a EU Commission President candidate of the S&D group within the European Parliament.

BSP's Momchil Nekov 'Pressured' to Renounce MEP Seat

Momchil Nekov, who surprisingly made it into EP replacing BSP leader Sergey Stanishev, is under pressure to give up his seat, reports suggest.

The 28-year-old, who was number 15 of the Bulgarian Socialist Party's election list, is set to become one its four MEPs after having received a huge portion of preference vote in the European elections.
