In the last year, young Bulgarians have used cannabis most often, but heroin sends most people to clinics. This is shown in the annual report of the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction, BNT reported.

A new report points to an increase in the use of cannabis in Greece along with a significant decrease in that of heroin and other opioids.

Encouraged by developments in Serbia's immediate neighbourhood, IRKA has stepped up a campaign with letters, marches and a concert in front of the Serbian parliament to lobby lawmakers to decriminalise the use of cannabis.

The substance will also be distributed in the places where are selling cigarettes, reported NOVA TV. 

The Belgian authorities have resolved the free sale of so-called "light" cannabis, local media reported. In the future, the plant will be sold even in stores for cigarettes, not just as in the past, only in specialized stores, BTA said.

Three people were detained yesterday because they smoked marijuana in front of the National Assembly, FOCUS reported.

A fully equipped hydroponic lab where cannabis was being cultivated was found by police on Wednesday during a raid on a residence in the area of Zahouli in Megara, western Attica.
The 52-year-old owner of the home was arrested and officers seized 119 cannabis trees. Police said they were looking for his 51-year-old accessory.

Within four years scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will create nutritional supplements to help treat various diseases. Because of this they are currently doing research on different natural resources and plants.
 

In vitro experiments prove a strong anti-tumor activity of cannabis extract, said Prof. Iva Ugrinova, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her team started working on the national scientific program "Innovative Low-Toxic and Biologically Active Means for Precision Medicine" - BioActiveMed and can now deliver first results.

The Bulgarian authorities have shut down two illegal cannabis production greenhouses and arrested two suspects, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

A total of 429 pots with cannabis plants and 64.7 kg of raw cannabis were found in the first greenhouse in the town of Gabrovo, some 200 km east of Sofia, the ministry said.

The President of the International Anti-drug and Human Rights Center (CIADO) Romania, Academician Constantin Balaceanu Stolnici, recommends the Government to endorse the research in the area of medical cannabis and create a legal framework for patients to have access to these treatments safely, a press release of the organization informs.
