Greece's bond yields have eased from a year-high recorded in March, but remain above the all-time lows posted earlier this year.

Drug dealing couple netted in Athens

A man from Guinea and a woman from Moldova were arrested in Argyroupoli in southern Athens on Monday, accused of drug possession and trafficking.
According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the detainees were active in the greater Athens area.
A search of their car as well as their apartment in the district of Vyronas yielded 220 packages of cocaine weighing 729.3 grams.

Coronavirus deaths rise to 53 with total cases pending as tests on ferry continue

Greek Health Ministry spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras on Thursday announced 99 new cases of coronavirus with the death toll rising to 53. 

Of these 23 are residents at the Ritsona refugee camp, north of Athens, and 49 people on a passenger ferry currently anchored off Piraeus. 

Deaths rose to 53 after three more patients, died in the hospital, he said.

Syntagma Square ‘bomb’ turns out to be old machine part

Police have lifted a cordon at downtown Athens' Syntagma Square after a chunk of metal initially believed to be an old mortar shell was identified as a machine part.

The bomb scare near the country's Parliament was sounded earlier on Tuesday after workers conducting maintenance on a water line on the corner of Nikis and Ermou streets struck metal.

Bomb disposal experts shut down and evacuated a part of Syntagma Square in downtown Athens on Tuesday in order to safely remove a World War II bomb.

The bomb was discovered on the corner of Nikis and Ermou streets - across the square from Parliament - by workers with the Athens Water and Sewerage company who were digging in the area.

Athens seeks to house homeless amid pandemic

Athens municipal authorities are scrambling to find a solution to the capital's homeless problem as the central government attempts to enforce a lockdown on public movement.
City Hall is seeking to locate adequate housing - preferably one building - in which homeless people can be hosted for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.
