Athens traffic closures, transport stopages on May 1
Due to the May 1 union rallies, large parts of central Athens city center will be closed to traffic Monday and public transport services will be limited.
All three Metro lines and tram services will be shut down all day, as employees stage a 24-hour stoppage.
Housing stock not enough
The pool of homes that qualify for the government's My Home ("Spiti Mou") program is smaller than in the recent past. This is the program that, in cooperation with the banks, subsidizes mortgage rates to help young people (up to the age of 39) enter the housing market. KAS conditionally allows pets in some open-air archaeological sites

Police in Athens have arrested a 56-year-old fugitive wanted by the authorities in Albania for child trafficking.
The suspect, who was wanted on an Interpol arrest warrant, was tracked down in the central Athens district of Agios Nikolaos and taken into custody on Monday afternoon.
Iconic venue gets new lease on life
One of the oldest and most popular venues in Athens, the Aegli cafe-restaurant in Zappeio, will open again by the end of 2023 after a tender awarded a 20-year-lease to the Grigoris catering chain. It has been closed since October 2020.

Arsakeio Arcade to be turned into food hall
Works are set to commence soon on the Arsakeio Arcade in downtown Athens to accommodate a Mediterranean food hall. The 10-million-euro investment by Legendary Foods SA is expected to generate 500 jobs directly and 5,000 indirectly at the now-defunct bookstore hub.

The tragedy of the commons
My family moved from the downtown Athens district of Kolonos to the southern suburb of Nea Smyrni in 1974 so we could be closer to our school, Leonteios. It was like moving to the countryside! Everything appeared bigger - and it was: the sidewalks, streets and especially those big houses with the pretty gardens.

Intercity train from Athens to Thessaloniki experiences power outage, passengers left stranded
An Intercity train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki on Sunday experienced a power outage, causing it to come to a sudden stop just outside the city of Larissa in central Greece.
The incident caused unrest among the passengers as the lights went out.
