Russia sentences Nemtsov hitmen to lengthy jail terms
A Russian court handed on July 13 jail terms ranging from 11 to 20 years to five Chechen men for organizing and carrying out the contract killing of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.
Ukraine serviceman killed in Kyiv car blast
A suspected car bombing in Kyiv on June 27 killed a Ukrainian soldier in an incident classified as a "terrorist act" by police, the interior ministry said.
"The deceased was a serviceman in the armed forces," ministry spokesman Artem Shevchenko said at a briefing.

Gay men are being rounded up and killed in Chechnya: Report
More than 100 gay men have been detained and at least three have been killed by authorities in Chechnya, according to a Russian newspaper cited Saturday in The New York Times.
The disturbing report from Novaya Gazeta, which cites government and police sources, follows a week of rumors about gay men mysteriously disappearing off the streets of the Russian republic, the Times reports.

First Muslin women only beach in Chechnya (vid)
The authorities in Chechnya have created the first beach for Muslim women in an effort to tone down tensions in the region of Grozny. The beach on Tuesday and is enclosed by 1.8 meter fence, while all women using it have to adhere to the strict Muslim dress code, which forbids disrespectful attire.
