May 24: Bulgaria Celebrates the Legacy of Cyril and Methodius - Culture, Enlightenment, and the Slavonic Alphabet

May 24 holds significant cultural and historical importance for Bulgarians, marking the celebration of the Bulgarian Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literature Day, known as "Saints Cyril and Methodius Day." This day commemorates the brothers Cyril and Methodius, who are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, which later evolved into the Cyrillic script.

Security Measures Implemented for May 24 Celebrations in Sofia

In preparation for May 24, the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, as well as the Day of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture, and Slavic Literature, the National Security Service is implementing security measures in Sofia's city center. The festivities will commence with a formal procession at 10:30 a.m., commencing from the Archaeological Museum.

Bulgaria celebrates May 24 as the day of the Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavic Script, the official Day of Holy Brothers St. Cyril and St. Methodius - the Byzantine scholars who wrote the first Slavic alphabet in 855 A.D., and translated into Old Bulgarian the Bible and the religious literature of Orthodox Christianity.

Decided: Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia Will Celebrate St. St. Cyril and Methodius Together

The Macedonian government decided to celebrate the celebration of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, St. Kliment Ohridski, St. Naum and Tsar Samuil. This happened during the government meeting, headed personally by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.
