Combat operations in 2014 during the Battle of Aleppo

Syrian government forces clashed with rebels on the outskirts of eastern Aleppo city on Nov. 13, a monitor said, after residents received messages from the army giving opposition fighters 24 hours to leave.

Syrian government forces kept up their blistering assault on rebel-held eastern Aleppo yesterday after a divided U.N. Security Council failed to agree on a truce to "save" the war-battered city.

Regime forces and their allies were advancing street by street in the eastern sector which has been out of government hands since 2012.

Syrian government forces and rebels fought battles north of Aleppo and in the city center on Sept. 30, a week into a Russian-backed offensive by the Syrian army to take the entire city, while the U.S. and Russia continued blaming each other over the situation in Syria. 

A bomb explosion in a tunnel near Aleppo Citadel in Syria on July 12 damaged a wall of the fortress that is part of the UNESCO-listed Old City, state media and a monitor reported.
