Nearly one million people in Bulgaria cannot afford even a week's vacation, according to the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB). This announcement is based on an analysis by the European Trade Union Institute of the European Confederation of Trade Unions.

Under the EU Green Deal, of which Bulgaria is part, the use of coal in energy industry is to be done away with by 2030. The target is  net carbon emissions to be reduced by 55%.

The two biggest trade unions in Bulgaria- the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and Podkrepa Confederation of Labor are preparing a joint nationwide protest at the end of November.

The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB) sent a letter to the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy a few days ago, asking the government and the National Assembly to ratify Convention 190 of the International Labor Organization, which deals with non-violence and harassment in the workplace, announced BTA.

The industrial federations of Podkrepa Confederation of Labour and the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) are launching a national petition for increase of the pay for night time work, BNT reported.

In Bulgaria, 41% of workers say working time is not in line with family and social commitments. On average, for the EU this share is about 22%. This is due to the fact that the different forms of employment are not widely spread in Bulgaria.

Trade unions and employers have opposed the proposal of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) to reduce VAT on flour and flour products, milk, eggs and cheese from 20% to 5%, and of medicines to 9%, Focus News Agency reports.

30% is the grey economy, according to trade union figures.

"Preventing and restricting undeclared work in Bulgaria" is the topic of a roundtable organized by The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB).

Over 20,000 people did not receive their salaries regularly in 2018, often it is not just a delay. Moreover, people are working also a job without signing a contract.

This was reported by The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB) on the Equal Pay Day between men and women. According to the union, 44 percent of women in Bulgaria live at risk of poverty.
