India’s Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down the Muslim practice that allows men to instantly divorce their wives–by saying “talaq” three times–as unconstitutional.

India's top court on Aug. 22 banned an Islamic practice that allows men to divorce their wives instantly, ending a long tradition that many Muslim women had fiercely opposed.
The Supreme Court ruled that the practice of "triple talaq", whereby Muslim men can divorce their wives by reciting the word talaq (divorce) three times, was both "unconstitutional and un-Islamic."

Divorce rates in Turkey up by 82 percent in last 10 years
Turkey has witnessed a dramatic rise in its divorce rate over the past 10 years with an increase of 82 percent, according to 2016 figures from the general directorate of criminal records and statistics.
New bill aims to speed up divorce
Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis has put to public consultation a draft bill that will significantly speed up the process of uncontested divorce.
If the legislation is passed, couples that agree to dissolve their union will be able to settle any differences arising from issues such as separation of property, custody and child support, etc, with a simple notarial act.
