The head of Romania's National Agency for Integrity (ANI) Horia Georgescu resigned on accusations of abuse of office during his tenure at the Central Commission for Compensations.

Georgescu handed his resignation, which is going to be registered at the Cabinet of the Romanian Senate President later on Tuesday, AGERPRES news agency reports.

The chief of Romania's National Integrity Agency (ANI) Horia Georgescu has been taken into custody by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on Monday.

Georgescu was transferred to the detention facility of Bucharest prison after having been heard at the DNA office, AGERPRES news agency reports.

National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors are executing search warrants at 13 locations in the City of Bucharest and in the counties of Constanta and Cluj, one of which is the headquarters of a public institution, the rest being company headquarters and homes of individuals.
