Dakar Rally

Saudi Arabia will continue to be the home of the Dakar Rally for the next few years with race director David Castera telling AFP "we still have so many deserts to explore."

Castera was speaking after Jan. 14's penultimate stage with Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah poised for his fifth title.

Rider Emanuel Gyenes will start on January 3rd for the eleventh time in the Dakar Rally, race that will take place in Saudi Arabia, with the objective of imposing himself again in the Malle Moto category (no technical assistance). "Certainly, in January, after winning the Dakar 2020 in Malle Moto, I didn't imagine such a different year will follow.

Satu Mare-born biker Emanuel Gyenes will participate in the 2021 Dakar Rally in what will be his eleventh time in this competition. Gyenes seeks to finish on the podium in the Malle Moto class and in the general ranking's top 30, a release informs on Thursday.

Romanian bike rider Emanuel (Mani) Gyenes (KTM) finished 29th in the general ranking, 14th in the Marathon class and the first in the Malle Moto category at the 2020 Dakar Rally. Gyenes ranked 29th at 08 h 02 min 31 sec, thus achieving his goal from the beginning of the race, to enter Top 30.

Drivers competing in the Dakar Rally were greeted with wreaths made of coca leaves, which help combat altitude sickness and are also used as the raw ingredient in cocaine, as they entered the Andean country of Bolivia on Jan. 11.

Colleagues at the Autonet Satu Mare (northwestern Romania) Company welcomed biker Emanuel 'Mani' Gyenes with a cake after his victory in the marathon class of the 2015 Dakar Rally; the company was also his sponsor.
