Greece places low on the innovation scoreboard

Despite some progress, Greece remains stuck in 20th place among the 27 European Union members on innovation, according to the annual "European Innovation Scoreboard" report released by the European Commission.

It held the same place in 2010, when the financial crisis blew up in full force. While not the worst, Greece's scores are at best middling and below the EU average.

German firm opening tech center in Athens

German digital marketing company LR Health & Beauty will create a technology center in Athens and will start hiring computer engineers and user experience designers soon. 

The aim is to develop applications in-house instead of outsourcing them. 

The company said it is locating the center in Athens because of an abundance of qualified engineers.

Some 40 pct of firms engage in innovation activities

Some 39.8 percent of enterprises with 10 or more employees were considered as "innovation active" during 2020-2022, according to a survey by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

This was 38.5 percent in the 2018-2020 period, said TÜİK on Dec. 12.

Over 70 percent of large enterprises with more than 250 employees introduced new or improved products (goods or services).
