Congo's Ministry of Health has announced 11 new confirmed Ebola cases and two deaths tied to cases in the country's northwest.

The World Health Organization says the Democratic Republic of the Congo is again facing an outbreak of the contagious and deadly Ebola virus.

Congolese Health Minister Oly Ilunga announced Saturday that three people had died of the virus in the northeast of the country.

A prototype vaccine for Ebola may be "up to 100 percent effective" in protecting against the deadly virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Dec. 23.

The latest in a string of candidate vaccines against the deadly Ebola virus was proven safe in an early trial in healthy adults in China, its developers said Wednesday.
      
But while it triggered an antibody response in test subjects, further trials must be held to establish whether the drug actually protects against Ebola, they said.
      

The first large-scale trial of an Ebola vaccine will begin in Guinea at the weekend, the World Health Organization said March 5, weeks after a similar test kicked off in neighbouring Liberia.

A patient hospitalised in Sofia with symptoms similar to those of Ebola hasn't been infected with the deadly virus, BNR TV station reported on Friday.

The patient, who had recently returned from Sierra Leone, was hospitalised with high body temperature and fever in Sofia's Military Hospital on Thursday. 

It is increasingly unlikely Ebola virus had caused the death of a British national in Macedonia, Macedonian news agency MIA reported on Saturday.
