Iraqi security forces fired tear gas and live rounds during clashes with anti-government protesters overnight and on Jan. 20 morning in Baghdad, wounding at least 13 demonstrators and prompting authorities to close key streets and thoroughfares leading to the city center, officials said.

Lebanon's public prosecutor ordered the release on Jan. 19 of more than 30 people detained the previous evening, according to the National State News agency, in the worst day of violence since protests erupted three months ago.

The public prosecutor said all 34 arrested are to be released, except those with other pending cases.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency said on Jan. 15 that Egyptian security forces raided their Cairo office and took four journalists into custody, including a Turkish national, to an unknown destination.

At least four people were killed and 20 injured after a car bomb on Nov. 15 targeted Tahrir Square in the city amid anti-government protests ongoing since October, according to security sources.

An independent panel of United Nations experts said on Nov. 8 that the death of former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in June could amount to "a state-sanctioned arbitrary killing".    

Twelve anti-government demonstrators were killed on Oct. 6 in ongoing protests in the capital Baghdad, the latest fatalities in six days of clashes that have left more than 100 dead and thousands wounded.

Iraq faced the prospect of a deepening political crisis on Oct. 5, after four days of unrest left at least 64 people dead, and authorities lifted a round-the-clock curfew in the capital meant to quell the anti-government demonstrations.

Over 350 people have been arrested across Egypt in the latest wave of demonstrations against Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, according to a Cairo-based non-governmental organization. 

Climate protesters marched through Paris for a second day on Sept. 21 in a rally that saw sporadic clashes between masked demonstrators and police who also broke up "yellow vest" groups trying to stage unauthorised gatherings in the capital.
