Thailand's progressive Move Forward Party (MFP) claimed victory in the country's election Monday after a result that decimated military-backed parties that have ruled the kingdom for nearly a decade.

Voters in Thailand were heading to the polls on Sunday in an election touted as a pivotal chance for change, eight years after incumbent Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha first came to power in a 2014 coup. He is now running against the daughter of the politician who is the military's top nemesis.

A new Thai political party vowed Saturday to obey a command from the king blocking the candidacy of a princess for prime minister in a dramatic reversal that appeared to boost the junta's chances ahead of March elections.

The state-run Turkish Radio Television (TRT) has refused to air an election campaign advertisement by the main opposition Republican People?s Party (CHP) ?because it directly targets the government,? a senior party official said April 11. 

The deputy head of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has dismissed the criticisms against public broadcaster TRT for overwhelmingly covering Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s rallies compared to the other candidates, arguing such a thing could not be expected because he is the prime minister.
