The government is preparing significant tax incentives to encourage the use of zero- and low-emission vehicles, as well as the proliferation of electric vehicle charging stations.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday heralded a government scheme aimed at promoting the switch to electric cars, declaring on the occasion of World Environment Day that, "Greece is preparing to plug into the future."

The Municipality of Athens has given the green light for electric vehicles, cars and scooters to enter the planned pedestrianized networks in the so-called Commercial Triangle of Athens and the iconic area of Plaka, where the use of private cars will be prohibited - with exceptions.

Volkswagen was the most popular car brand in Turkey in January in terms of the number of units it sold on the local market, the latest data have shown.
In the month, the German carmaker managed to sell a total of 3,700 vehicles, according to the calculations of Anadolu Agency, based on the figures from the Automotive Distributors' Association (ODD).

Greece lags behind its European peers when it comes to electric cars, the latest data suggests.

The high cost of purchasing such vehicles, the scarcity of charging points around the country and the lack of incentives to obtain clean energy autos are considered the main factors that are holding Greece back in this field of technology.

The Greek government is considering incentives to promote the use of electric cars and natural gas in transport, along with expanding the use of biofuel, as part of its actions to reduce emissions, Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said on Monday. 

More than 200 million were the registered motor vehicles in China by the end of 2019, an 8.83% year-on-year increase, the Ministry of Public Security reported.

The number of electric cars reached 3.81 million last year, the ministry said, adding that for the second consecutive year it has exceeded the 1 million mark.
