Following the death of a 12-year-old boy after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter earlier this month, the government is planning stricter laws regulating the use of such vehicles on the country's roads.

Since the beginning of 2024, five people have died and 192 have been injured in 323 traffic accidents involving electric scooter drivers, according to the Main Directorate of the "National Police" of the Ministry of the Interior.

Lime scooters are gradually returning to Athens and Thessaloniki, as the company is recovering from the blow inflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic that saw its revenue sink by 95%.

Ljubljana – Dnevnik welcomes in Thursday’s commentary new rules which regulate the use of electric scooters, hoping riders will embrace them to improve safety in Slovenian streets. The newspaper says that better road safety starts with all traffic participants becoming aware of the new rules and complying with them.

Authorities in Thessaloniki, a seaside city in northern Greece, are taking action following reports that dozens of electric scooters have been tossed into the water.

It is believed that at least 45 vehicles, available to rent for short periods of time through a mobile application, currently lie on the bottom of Thermaikos Gulf.

The first electric scooters in Sofia are already operational today. There are more than 150 scooters in various locations in the city, and anyone who wants to use them can do so for a starting fee of BGN 1.50 and BGN 0.30 per minute.
