A fire broke out Wednesday near the village of Svoronata on the Ionian island of Kefalonia (also spelled Cephalonia).

The 112 emergency alert system issued a warning to residents of the village, located 9km southwest of Argostoli, the island's capital, advising them to stay alert for a possible evacuation.

The 60-year-old driver of a commuter bus on the Ionian island of Cephalonia suffered a heart attack and died on Monday while driving the route between Poros and Argostoli.

The bus reportedly veered into a wall when the driver lost consciousness behind the wheel and died.

None of the passengers was injured.

A prosecutor on the Ionian island of Cephalonia is due to question a 31-year-old man who was caught by volunteer firefighters starting a fire in a wooded area near the island’s southern tip.
