Turkey cements position as Europe’s top coal-fired power system
Turkey has spent eight of the first nine months of 2024 as Europe's largest producer of coal-fired electricity, overtaking Germany and Poland as it cranked coal burning for power.
Turkey generated a record 88 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity from coal during January through September, according to energy think tank Ember, which was 2% more than during the same period in 2023.

Artists launch campaign to help theater workers
Turkish actors have launched a donation platform to help unemployed theater workers as the sector is now one of the hardest hit because of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Actors including Ali Düşenkalkar, Çağlar Çorumlu and Tilbe Saran organized the campaign for stage workers.

Haldun Taner: Pioneer of Turkish cabaret theater
Turkey on May 7 remembered Haldun Taner, pioneer of Turkish cabaret theater, on his 34th death anniversary.
Taner, also a renowned playwright and short story writer, was born on May 16, 1915, in Istanbul to a family of bureaucrat Ahmet Selahattin Bey and Seza Hanım.

Turkish films in Boston
The 16th Boston Turkish Films Festival will be organized this year between March 16 and April 2.
This year's program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers with several appearances by guest directors. Most of the films make their North America or U.S. premieres at the festival.

Taylan Brothers jury presidents at Golden Tulip
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) between April 5 and 17, the 36th Istanbul Film Festival announced the jury members for its National Golden Tulip Competition Turkish Cinema of the festival includes the National Golden Tulip Competition, National Documentary Competition and National Short Film Competition.

Festival on Wheels to hit the road for the 22nd time in Turkey
It's that time of the year again, when one of Turkey's oldest film festivals, the Festival on Wheels, gets ready to take on the road for two weeks. The festival will kick off in Ankara on Nov. 25, staying in the capital for a week before traveling to Eskişehir from Dec. 2 to 4 and ending its journey in the northern province of Kastamonu, staying there from Dec. 5 to 7.
Canadian PM welcomes Turkish film festival in Vancouver
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has hailed the upcoming Vancouver Turkish Film Festival, which will take place between Nov. 25 and 27.
"I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the third annual Vancouver Turkish Film Festival (VTTF)," Trudeau wrote in his letter sent to Hakan Burcuoğlu, the founder and the director of the festival.

Demirkubuz to head jury of Golden Tulip
