ERT plans to hire 206 new employees, minister says

An additional 206 employees will be hired at ERT to cover needs in crucial areas of the state broadcaster, Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas has said.

"These hirings are not a waste of money, but will actually help us save money," Pappas told Parliament on Friday, adding that ERT currently relies extensively on private broadcast crews.

Former state broadcaster to reopen under previous name

Greek state-broadcaster Nerit reverts to its previous ERT moniker at 6 a.m. on Friday, on the two-year anniversary of the closure of ERT and its affiliates by the then Samaras government.
ERT’s closing in June 2013 generated a firestorm of criticism by the political opposition at the time, and heated responses by press unions, in the country and abroad.

PM heralds relaunch of state broadcaster ERT on Monday

Public broadcaster ERT will reopen in a week, two years after it was shut down, leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Monday.

Meeting with ERT chairman Dionysis Tsaknis and CEO Lambis Tagmatarchis, Tsipras urged the newly installed executives to work for a ?pluralist and independent? network.

Greece Reopening Public Broadcaster

Greek MPs have voted to reopen the state-owned, public radio and TV broadcaster ERT which was shut down in June 2013 amid harsh austerity measures.

The leftist government of PM Alexis Tsipras, elected in January, had vowed to end ERT's blackout that has gone on for nearly two years after budget restrictions forced the previous administration to close it down.
