Greece Reopening Public Broadcaster

Greek MPs have voted to reopen the state-owned, public radio and TV broadcaster ERT which was shut down in June 2013 amid harsh austerity measures.

The leftist government of PM Alexis Tsipras, elected in January, had vowed to end ERT's blackout that has gone on for nearly two years after budget restrictions forced the previous administration to close it down.

Bill for reopening ERT to go to House on Monday

A draft bill foreseeing the reinstatement of former state broadcaster ERT, which was abruptly closed down in June 2013 by the previous conservative-led administration, is expected to be presented in Parliament on Monday even as Greek government officials brace for tough discussions with eurozone peers on a proposed economic reform program.
