Turkish newspaper to pay compensation to former CHP MP

Pro-government Turkish daily Ak?am has been sentenced to pay 6,000 Turkish Liras in compensation to former Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Umut Oran for publishing a manufactured story alleging an assassination plot against President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an's daughter, Sümeyye Erdo?an, which they had claimed involved Oran, daily Cumhuriyet reported on April 20.

Turkish media group head assaulted in Istanbul

The chairman of Turkish media outlet Star has been assaulted by gunfire in Istanbul while riding inside his armored car, however no casualties were reported.

Murat Sancak, who is also the nephew of businessman Ethem Sancak, was caught in crossfire on Aug. 20 along with his bodyguard and driver in Istanbul's Had?mköy district at around 12 p.m. 

Editors of Turkish dailies Star and Akşam removed

Turkish media mogul Ethem Sancak, known for his close ties to the government, has fired three high profile managers of his various media outlets.

Star Media Publishing Group head Mustafa Karaalioğlu, daily Star editor-in-chief Yusuf Ziya Cömert, and daily Akşam editor-in-chief Mehmet Ocaktan were all removed from their posts late on Nov. 24.
