Fatih Terim, the ‘Emperor’ of Turkish soccer, shakes up Greek league

Seeking a bonus to his storied career as a player and coach in Turkey, Fatih Terim is facing his next challenge in neighboring Greece.

The restless 70-year-old took charge of Panathinaikos at the new year and his team next plays PAOK in Thessaloniki on Sunday. The two teams currently top the Super League with 44 points from 19 matches.

PAO signs Bakasetas

Greek soccer international Tasos Bakasetas arrived in Athens on Monday night to complete his transfer to Panathinaikos, which is coached by Turkish coach Fatih Terim. 

Bakasetas, who was signed from Turkish club Trabzonspor, told reporters that "it was hard to say goodbye to Trabzonspor."

Galatasaray drops further in Turkish Süper Lig with Trabzonspor loss

Galatasaray's woeful Turkish Süper Lig season hit a new low on Jan. 23 when the Istanbul club lost 2-1 to leader Trabzonspor at home.

Galatasaray made a hopeful start to the match and went ahead in the 30th minute when Romanian midfielder Alexandru Cicaldau successfully converted a penalty shot.

Nov. 21's derby pitted the two teams against each other, with the visiting side Fenerbahçe claiming a 2-1 victory with a late goal.

Fenerbahçe breathed a sigh of relief on Nov. 21 night in the Turkish Süper Lig, coming from behind to beat archrival Galatasaray 2-1 in an away game.

The victory in the tense game was Fenerbahçe's first league win in five games and came at a time coach Vitor Pereira and club chairman Ali Koç were under immense pressure.
