‘Decline of seagrass in Dardanelles a threat to biodiversity’
The alarming loss of seagrass meadows in the Dardanelles poses a significant threat to marine biodiversity, warns an expert.
Within the scope of the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Türkiye's (TÜBİTAK) study, the effects of mucilage on seagrass meadows, which have an important place in marine biodiversity, were investigated by a team of 12 people in the Dardanos region.
Fishing ban to start on April 15
The annual fishing ban is set to begin on April 15 and will continue till Sept 1, as fishermen who have already anchored their boats start preparations for the forthcoming season, repairing ripped nets and carrying out boat maintenance.

Over 37 mln liras of fines imposed for illegal fishing
Fines of more than 37 million Turkish Liras ($2.1 million) were given during inspections for illegal fishing, while 480 tons of fishery products and 169 ships without fishing licenses were confiscated in 2022, the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry has announced.
The ministry stated that 199,702 inspections were carried out against illegal fishing last year.

Lake Varna: Tons of Dead Fish at the Shore, What is the Reason?
Tons of dead fish have covered a part of the shores of Lake Varna, according to a video posted on the Internet. The video was shot today on the southern shore of Varna Lake near the village of Konstantinovo.
