Multinational project launched to assess pollution in Black Sea
A team of 17 marine scientists from four countries, including Turkey, have joined forces in a new project aiming at evaluating the degree of pollution in the Black Sea. Scientists on board the research vessel "Mare Nigrum" carried out sampling of water, sediments and marine organisms to assess the health of the sea, which marks the majority of Turkey's northern border.
Selonda gets ‘Fish from Greece’ certification
Selonda Aquaculture has received the "Fish from Greece" private certification from the TUV Hellas monitoring organization, concerning responsible fish farming and underscoring the high quality of Greek fish.
After acquiring the certification, the fish distributed by the Greek firm will also bear the "Fish from Greece" tag.

Thousands of fish dead in Koroneia lake as water levels dropped to 60cm
Thousands of freshwater fish, mostly carp, have been found dead around Lake Koroneia, where the water level has fallen dramatically to just 60-80 cm.
Family-style fishing should be supported, expert says
Overfishing has been depleting fish stocks, Professor Bayram Öztürk has warned, as the fishing season started with the end of the ban on Sept. 1. Measures against overfishing, especially in terms of preventing illegal fishing, should be taken alongside encouraging traditional family fishing, said Öztürk, the head of the Turkish Research Marine foundation.

The Hellenic Initiative, a group founded by entrepreneurs of the Greek diaspora, has donated $20,000 to Enaleia, a school teaching the merits of sustainable fishing to Greek fishermen.

Highly toxic invasive fish spreading in Aegean sea
Populations of the lagocephalus sceleratus, commonly known as the silver-cheeked toadfish, which in recent years have spread across the Aegean and the Mediterranean, could lead to death if consumed, according to marine biologists.
The fish, described as a "highly toxic invasive fish," entered the Mediterranean from the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal.

Premier announces in Tulcea new program to revitalize fisheries sector
