Ivelin Popov is the Bulgarian Footballer of the Year for 2017
The captain of the national football team, Ivelin Popov, was voted No. 1 in Bulgarian football in 2017. The striker of the Russian Spartak (Moscow) won the 57th edition of the "Football of the Year" poll, gathering 228 points in the 104- sports journalists from 48 media outlets.
Ivelin Popov Becomes Best Bulgarian Footballer of 2015
The player of Spartak Moscow Ivelin Popov was awarded the best Bulgarian footballer of the year prize on Saturday.
Popov garnered 241 points, leaving behind him Palermo midfielder Ivaylo Chochev and CSKA Moscow midfielder Georgi Milanov.
Bulgarian Sports Minister Krasen Kralev handed the award to the captain of the Bulgarian men's national football team.
Bulgarian Football Union Relegates Litex from A Group
The Bulgarian Football Union (BFS) relegated on Wednesday leading football club Litex Lovech from the country's top football division - the A Group.
The decision of the disciplinary committee comes after the major scandal, which occurred during the derby between Levski Sofia and Litex during the weekend.
National Coach Lyuboslav Penev Takes Charge of Botev Plovdiv
Bulgaria's national football team coach Lyuboslav Penev will also lead top league club Botev Plovdiv from next season.
On Friday, the Bulgarian Football Union announced that it will allow Penev to combine the two jobs. The BFU President Borislav Mihaylov discussed the matter with the Executive Committee of the union and they agreed to give Penev the green light.
